Thank you Fenerbahçe SC! Thank you Dr Kubilay!

From Fenerbache MEDIA

Fenerbahce have shown a great heart again - and did a TV interview (I was okay- Dr Kube was great) - and then the yellow and navy blue shirt came on a silver plate in the room. I have published this yesterday, Dr K is on the mail, he is writing about his baby nr 2 (Fener ) and I'm copy/pasting; " Fenerbahçe is not a football club, Fenerbahçe is a sports club. So it is not Fenerbahçe FC, it's Fenerbahçe SC"

Dr Kubilay is a die hard Fenerbache fan, and yes! he is a doctor - and he builds culture - and has one of the best brains that I have meet when it comes to fans living togheter on the football planet, and holding on to a culture... ( it takes a lot to figure out how..)

A big club has helped! and I told my new mate ; "we have been here before" ... ..

If you do not know the history about the Norwegian Viking affiliations who fought for the emperor in Istanbul, ( Konstanttinopel) that we called it Miklagard (the big city) - then you have to read down.

It was a good atmosphere across the table when I told him that my great-great (etc.) grandfather was a mercenary in their old kingdom.

This is just to the father of Dr Kubilay, but you can see too.......:

Enormous walls on both the land and sea, met with the Vikings as they sailed towards Constantinople. The city was the largest known to the Vikings and they called it Miklagard. The great wealth was perhaps tempting prey, but size did the Vikings soon either went in the service of the emperor. He created a special Viking Guard - known as Væringene or Varjagerne. The most famous ruler of this garden was Harald Hardrada.

The emperor incorporated them into his army as a separate department. It was known as "the ax-bearing garde" - after the huge tobladede axes they used in battle. This unit knows the time Væringene - the sworn. They were the best paid of the imperial troops. So well paid that they had to bribe the right people to come up with.

Already here is the time and say that all text is taken from www.viking.no

Varangians got even keep the prey they were able to raid with them from the battlefield and the cities they conquered, and every time an emperor died, they claim "polutasvarv" (palace plunder). As for the palaces in the capital and seized all the treasures and valuables they could carry. After 1066 ended many saxere from England to farm. North Boer was in imperial service in over 300 years.

Harald Hardrada in Miklagard
Perhaps the most famous of Varangians was Harald Sigurdsson (1015 - 1066), who later became king of Norway who is called Hardrada. He was chief of Varangians, the emperor's guard, for many years. He led væringgarden in combat, both in North Africa, Syria, Palestine and in Sicily. All the property Harald got in, he sent for storage north of Holm Farm in Russia, for its upcoming in-law of King Yaroslav the Wise. "There was so much cargo that no man from the north had seen such things in one man's possession," said Snorri.

Harald solo home:
When Harald after many years of service planned to return to Norway he wanted to be with him Mary, who was keiserinnens niece, but the Empress said no. Varangians said there was a rumor that the empress Zoe even wanted Harald. Constantine did Harald jail, but Harald was helped to escape. He brought Mary with the power, got hold of a ship and rowed out from the harbor. When he approached the chain that blocked the sound, he commanded all who rowed, back in the boat. So rowed the other for dear life and ran the boat up on the iron chain. As soon as they stood firm, asked Harald every man to run requires. When tilted the boat forward and slipped the iron chain. They could continue over the Black Sea to Russia. But before he went on from there further to Norway, he sent magnanimous Mary with the result back to Miklagard and married Yaroslav's daughter Ellisif. They traveled to Norway in 1045.

I'm back in 2009. In peace...

Hi Bjørn,

I just started a game in the good old game of Championship Manager 97/98 and took over Mansfield. One of my first transfers was you from Leyton Orient. At the moment, you are the best player, captain, penalty and freekick taker in the team and we are hopefully going to be promoted. (Your profile: http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/4245/bjornh.jpg )

Then, I just wanted to check what you were doing in "real life" and was amazed to see you that you were actually in my home city, Istanbul, and at the stadium of my favorite football team, Fenerbahce.

I wish you all the best luck on your trip, and looking forward the the big outcome.

Cheers,
Alican Gok

It's me who should be thankful in fact.
This is a really important project, I think and I care about it. Being a part of it is really something wonderful. I hoped that I could help more but some people here dissapointed me indeed...
We'll keep in touch forever and accomplish many more projects together.

Thank you both for your generous compliments.
PS: Don't drink too much rakı while riding smilies/smiley.gif)

Do not always everyone talk so nicely and be so kind, you almost make me cry! Inspired by this piece I watched Fenerbahce beating Denizilspor last night and tried to find a bottle of raki from my bar, but apparently I had destroyed it earlier in some other suitable occasion.

@ Alican, I have seen Bjorn play - and actually had the honour last summer to play with him - and he is a constant terror for every goalkeeper. Excellent pick for your team and I am sure will get promoted soon.
